Some Blackjack Background

Blackjack probably is a derivative of the French “vingt-et-un” or 21. The aim of the game is to reach a card count of 21, or close to it, without exceeding that number. It is played against the dealer, and, of course, online, it is played against the computer.

However, when 21 crossed the Atlantic to the U.S. it was not a very popular game until some casinos developed a new twist to the game and offered a bonus if one of the player’s winning cards was a black jack. Hence the new name of Blackjack and a big jump in popularity.

Today’s Online Blackjack

Today’s online blackjack is nothing like the standard, classic game you could play in the mid-90’s when online casinos just began to show up on the internet. Today you have so many fancy blackjack variations that the most important thing for a player to do is to try out some online free blackjack games until he is ready to go for some real money blackjack.

If you are careful and study some basic strategy, then practice, practice and practice, you will be ready to start playing real money blackjack and can rake in some nice winnings.

Blackjack Strategies

There are whole schools and books on and about blackjack strategies. Some of them will give you really good tips on how to play and win, or, rather, how to keep your losses down to a minimum.

Most casino games have tips and strategies that can be found on the internet. If you play roulette, you will find roulette tips. If you play poker, you will find poker tips. And if you want to find out about blackjack strategies and tips, there are plenty of sites on the net ready to help you out. However, you should know that blackjack tips are a lot more complicated than, say, roulette tips. There are such things as learning “card counting” or “shuffle tracking” and only those players who are really good at the game know how to apply these strategies.

But whether you try all the complicated strategies or just play basic online blackjack, just remember you are supposed to enjoy the game.
