THE THREE STOOGES HIT WINSTAR by The Babe "The Babe" is a dedicated Blackjack Tournament Competitor. He was attracted to the game at the start of the 80’s and has undoubtedly participated in more major blackjack tournaments than anybody. He claims to have learned the game the hard way…….from his own mistakes. He has won his way to the televised tables of The Hilton Million Dollar II Tournament, the Ultimate Blackjack Tour on CBS, and the World Series of Blackjack on GSN. He still continues to compete, and has three major titles to his credit in the past two years. Editor’s Note: The Winstar casino is located in Oklahoma. They recently held a blackjack tournament with a one million dollar first place prize. Maybe you wanted to be a Winstar winner. The Babe gave it a shot! By the time you read this, the finals will be over, and the internet blackjack crowd should know the name of the big Million Dollar Winner of the Winstar tournament. Here is wishing good fortune to the lucky final 30, vying for the two million in prize money. In this article, I will examine the final hand at my quarter final table at a Winstar monthly qualifier. With this format, the semi-finals are more like the finals because one winner of each table in the semi’s (total of 30 players) advances to the final tournament, which is a bigger win than the opportunity to play for the $100,000 prize fund in the monthly finals. As the quarter final win gets you to that semi final table, it too is a sweet hurdle to overcome. With one hand left to play, there are only four contestants left at this quarter final table, and three players will advance. Starting bankroll is $1000, and there is no surrender allowed, no insurance allowed, Blackjacks pay double, all bets are in $25 increments, the maximum bet is ALL IN, and the minimum is $25. These rules insure that luck will have an even bigger influence on the final outcome than it does in a majority of tournaments, but good play will always increase one’s chances. The bankrolls shown in the table below are in the order of the betting and playing action. Player’s names will remain fictitious in order to protect the innocent!
See if you agree with each player’s bet, and if not, what would you bet that might be better.
