A WORD FROM HENRY
This month's issue of the BJI begins with Alan Krigman explaining why many blackjack players mistakenly believe that "10s always follows 10s." Think you know your basic playing strategy? Then take a whack at Fred Renzey's basic strategy quiz but be forewarned, you'd better put your thinking cap on it 'cause this quiz isn't as easy as you think. Who else but Joe Pane would share with BJI readers about a new weekly blackjack tournament in Las Vegas that has a guaranteed first place prize of $2000, it's virtually free to play, and it pays out more than it takes in ...don't miss this one. LVBear is growling again including a summary of the recent jury verdict which gave a blackjack card counter in Mississippi a $729,000 award for "patron abuse." Tournament pro Kenneth Smith has an unbelievable winning streak at one casino and he continued his streak with yet another recent first place finish; but, how he won on the last hand is bizarre and something you don't want to miss reading. More and more advantage blackjack players are learning dice control so we plan to have a series of articles on this topic by dice control pro Jerry "Stickman" beginning with his first article on the basics of dice control. The conclusion of Sammy Vaughn's story of when he first came to Vegas (circa 1960) is in this issue and you don't want to miss reading how his trip ended. Straddle bets in poker are a no-no according to poker pro Bill Burton, and he explains why in his article. Frank and Alene Paone provide an update on blackjack playing conditions in Atlantic City and, last but not least, we have a list of upcoming major blackjack tournaments courtesy of www.blackjacktournaments.com.
Speaking about dice control, congratulations are in order to BJI writer Frank Scoblete for having a feature story about his dice control exploits in the October issue of Playboy magazine. The story also features Frank's business partner Dominator.
I've received several inquiries as to why Barfarkel's trip reports have not appeared in the BJI this year. Unfortunately, Barfarkel sustained a serious illness which has prevented him from going to Las Vegas and Reno. He took two months medical leave from his 9-5 job to recuperate, and I'm happy to report he is back at work and feeling much better. He hopes to get back into the routine of attacking those blackjack games in Sin City in the near future, and when he does, we'll be publishing his trip reports again.
This the last reminder for the Golden Touch Blackjack hands-on course that I will be teaching in Las Vegas on the weekend of Oct. 18/19. There are just a few seats left. For details on the course go to www.goldentouchblackjack.com or call 1-866-946-2521. Note: This the last class that I will be teaching in 2008.
