Among tournament games, blackjack is at the top of the heap when comparing interesting strategy possibilities. Craps tournaments are almost always won with good tournament skills, but that game is entirely about betting strategy since there are no playing decisions to make. The same is true of roulette and baccarat. In blackjack, we get double the fun, because we get to choose our bet size and then we also get to make decisions about how to play the hand. Poker comes closest to competing in this realm, since it involves multiple decisions in every hand. However, it seems that more often than not, the best way to play your poker tournament hand is no different than the best way to play the same hand in a live cash game. Blackjack offers more opportunity for clever plays where normal blackjack strategy is inferior to the best tournament play. For me, that's what keeps the game interesting and fun. Once you open your eyes for interesting opportunities during a tournament round, you'll find plenty of chances to tweak your game with unusual plays. Let's look at an example...
