A WORD FROM HENRY

My friend Michael "Wizard of Odds" Shackleford has developed quite a unique simplified basic playing strategy that is worth checking out (hey, you might want to teach it to a friend or relative who can't quite master basic strategy). Read what Vinny DeCarlo has to say about his personal experience with the late "Polish Maverick" Bob Stupak (who gave DeCarlo his first job in casino security). Ralph Sticker retells the big move he made in his life, and what subsequently happened to his newly formed blackjack team. According to Frank Scoblete, the AC casinos are losing in their battle of survival. Read his views on this and the latest report on blackjack playing conditions from his team of reporters. Joe Pane describes the format of a poker tournament that he played in last week in Aruba, and the plans he's worked out with the Casino Manager there for a week-long series of blackjack tournaments in 2010. Ted Salveson's long-time casino host was fired and then hired by another casino, and he describes what happened and what he did about it. Kenneth Smith wraps up his series on Accumulation Blackjack Tournaments with nine more solid tips that could put you in the winners circle. The Babe meanwhile completes his two parts series on splitting Aces in tournaments (you'll be surprised at what he recommends). Poker pro Bill Burton offers tips on when to call (and when not to). And last, but not least, we have a summary of blackjack tournaments for November and December courtesy of blackjacktournaments.com.

Here's a recent court ruling that you might find interesting: The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled that a casino had no legal right to ban a blackjack player who admitted counting cards to gain a competitive advantage. Click here for details:

As a reminder, we have an extensive list of products in our BJI online store that includes books, strategy cards, DVDs, and software for these games: blackjack, video poker, craps, slots, poker, and more. Hint: They make great gifts for the upcoming holiday season.

TEXAS HOLD'EM A TO Z: "C" IS FOR CALLING by Bill Burton

"The most important decision a player will make in Texas Hold'em is which starting hands to play. Whether or not you enter a hand will depend on several important considerations. These are: the strength of your hand, your position, how many players have entered the pot, and if the pot was raised in front of you. Unfortunately, the number one reason that players lose money is they play too many hands, meaning they call too much..."
