Full-pay handheld blackjack, decent video poker, and easy comps combine to make the lengthy drive worthwhile. Our 21st excursion to Tunica included eight nights in casinos, spanning the Columbus Day weekend. Six free nights at Hollywood and Fitzgerald’s – plus having a discounted rate for Friday and Saturday at Hollywood – limited the non-gambling expenses. We could have had free weekend nights at Fitz but didn’t make the reservations in time. Crowds at the casino were decent-sized most of the trip, possibly because of the holiday weekend. Fitz claimed that all its rooms were booked through Columbus Day, and Gold Strike’s floor was packed.
