LAS VEGAS BLACKJACK REPORT: PALMS AND RIO CASINOS by KC Brooks I have been addicted to blackjack ever since reading Revere's "Playing Blackjack as a Business" when I was 15. The art of blackjack is a lifetime endeavor. I went through the learning process backwards, learning Revere's Advanced Point Count first. I found out early that the actual count system is only a small piece of the puzzle. Presently, I travel "my" Devils Triangle (Reno, Wendover, Vegas}, playing mainly single- and double-deck games. Hi Lo is my choice of strategies and "Professional Blackjack" by Wong is my bible. I worship a large spread, and have been known to wong everywhere I go. Thank God I haven't had to register as a wonger yet, but I am sure it is not too far off. I also help fellow AP Nick teach card counting at www.Blackjackclassroom.com. This month I venture to The Palms and Rio casinos, which are located just a few blocks from each other on West Flamingo Road. Palms The Palms property has three distinct towers; Palms Place, Palms Fantasy Towers, and the Ivory Tower, which has recently been remodeled and voted the best guest rooms in the United States. The Ivory tower is home to N9NE Steakhouse, the French-themed Alize restaurant and the Ghostbar which is located on the 55th floor and offers a 360-degree view of the strip. I visited the Palms on a Saturday afternoon and entered the 95,000 square foot casino from the west side parking lot. On your right is the Eatery Food court and to the back the Brenden Movie theatre complex. Fast food options include: Earl of Sandwich, Chronic Taco, Famiglia Pizza, Nathans Famous Hotdogs, Panda Express, McDonalds, and Blizzberry frozen Yogurt. To the left as you enter, is the state-of-the-art race and sports book with over 1,200 square feet of LED TV screens and 120 seats with individual flat-screen TVs, definitely an awesome place to enjoy your favorite sporting events. The casino is home to over 1,300 slot and video poker machines and your usual table games: craps roulette, blackjack, Pai Gow Poker, baccarat, as well as a few carnival games ...Three Card Poker, Let-it-Ride, and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. The Casino Bar sits right in the middle of all the table game action. There are four twelve-foot craps tables all located together. There were two games going on my visit, one with a $5 minimum and the other a $10 minimum. Both had maximum limits of $1000, and offer 3x4x5x odds. There were four roulette tables scattered about the casino floor. The majority of blackjack games offered at the Palms are six-deck shoe games. On my visit, I counted fifteen tables. The rules are: dealer hits soft seventeen, you can double after splitting and allowed to re-split aces. The table limits are $10-$1000, and the house advantage against the basic strategy player is 0.56%. The penetration was around 4.5 decks. There were two tables of double-deck blackjack. One table was a double exposure game paying 6:5 for blackjacks, and the other game had probably the best... ...enter your member login information below to read this article/newsletter...
