TRIP REPORT: NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA CASINOS by JPB JPB has been playing blackjack and counting cards part-time since 1996. He plays throughout the country but primarily in Missouri. He has been a Green Chip member of BJ21.com for five years and one-time winner of the Post-of-the-Month. JPB is a professional engineer with three engineering degrees and works as a consulting engineer. The casinos I visited and will cover include Buffalo Run, Quapaw, Wyandotte, Indigo Sky, and Downstream Casino (all located in and around Miami, OK). Introduction Over the last five years, I have played blackjack in at least 20 markets that includes: Reno, Las Vegas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Tunica, Arizona, South Florida, and Connecticut. During this period, one of, if not the best market, I found for a low to moderate stakes player is one I am willing to guess that most blackjack players have never played at. The market is located in Northeast Oklahoma, centered around Miami (pronounced Miam-uh), Oklahoma. At one point over the last five years, one of these casinos offered DD, S17, DAS and a decent 60-70% penetration. Additionally, one of the casinos offered a promotion where a joker was added to the six-deck pack. One casino offered 2:1 promotion for blackjacks, and two of the others offered 2:1 for suited blackjacks at least one time over the last five years. Oklahoma Blackjack When I first visited the area in 2006, the casinos that offered blackjack were generally not playable because of a nasty ante, ranging from $0.25-$1.00 per hand. A 0.25% ante on a $25.00 bet is an additional 1.0 % advantage to the house on top of the house advantage inherent to the game. To top it off, the rules were not that good (H17 and mostly DD and 6D) with mediocre penetration. Although some casinos offered ante-free times, it just was not worth the effort to try to find ante-free days and times for mediocre blackjack and low table limits. But times do change - at least they did in Northeast Oklahoma. Roll forward to 2016. All of the casinos I mention in this article do not... ...enter your member login information below to read this article/newsletter...
