"Thank you" to BJI's Newest Sponsor!

Hilton Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament

We're proud to announce that the Las Vegas Hilton's Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament is the newest corporate sponsor for the Blackjack Insider newletter and web site. Our regular readers will know that our editor, Henry Tamburin, has played in and written about this amazing tournament many times. Where else can you get such a great chance at a million bucks?! Read Henry Tamburin's analysis about the benefits and structure of this tournament in his article this month: WHY PLAY THE HILTON TOURNAMENT?.

A WORD FROM HENRY

We begin our August issue of BJI with a report by CC Rider on the blackjack playing conditions at the "new" Copa Casino in Gulfport, MS (you'll like it there). Fred Renzey, who plays blackjack mostly in the Chicago area, took a trip to Las Vegas and reports on the playing conditions that he found at several strip casinos (some good, some not). Your playing and betting position in blackjack tournaments is critical and Ken Smith explains why in his article on Position: A Critical Part of Tournament Strategy. Rob McGarvey shows how to gain the edge playing blackjack on the Internet by taking advantage of the many different bonus offers that online casinos will give you to get your business. Borgata has opened in Atlantic City and Alene Paone & Frank Scoblete explain in their Atlantic City Report how it has affected other casinos. Last month we published part 1 of LV Pro's recent trip to Las Vegas (he was down $1360 and not a happy camper). This month you can read the conclusion of his trip (it's not pretty). "Is the Hilton tournament worth playing?" Many players ask me that question so I dissected the tournament and made my recommendation. Lastly, we've updated our schedule of major blackjack tournaments.

Because of an illness, we couldn't complete the article that summarized our special interview with a casino surveillance person as we had planned. The interview will appear in the next issue of BJI.

POSITION: A CRITICAL PART OF TOURNAMENT STRATEGY by Kenneth R. Smith

"When you take a seat at a tournament table, you should be armed with a basic strategy of how you plan to approach the game. "Later I decided to update the TI meal comp slip I’d been carrying. Originally written last fall, I already once took a pen and changed the date on the comp but never used it. It would be too messy to re-forge another date on it so I resolved to chance it and lay my cards on the table..."
