I recently participated in an excellent blackjack tournament in Lake Tahoe at the Horizon, where they awarded a $100,000 first place prize after a marathon five days of competition. There were several unique aspects of this tournament. It was dealt face-up from a single deck making card counting more useful than usual in a tournament. Also, there were a number of rule changes that made the game more favorable for the player. Blackjack paid 2 to 1, and players were allowed to double down after splitting Aces. Each of those rules increased the importance of the Ace, so sidecounting Aces was a good idea.
