INSIDE THE ULTIMATE BLACKJACK TOUR By Henry Tamburin Henry Tamburin is the Editor and Publisher of the Blackjack Insider Newsletter; author of the best-selling Blackjack: Take the Money & Run, Lead Instructor for the Golden Touch Blackjack course, feature writer for Casino Player magazine (and 6 other publications); owner of a casino gambling publishing company (www.rsucasinobooks.com) and host of www.smartgaming.com. He has played in numerous blackjack tournaments over the past 3 years including finishing first at Fitzgerald’s casino in Las Vegas. I was invited to play in the first Ultimate Blackjack Tour (UBT), which was held in October in Las Vegas. Although I am sworn to secrecy not to reveal who won, I will give you an overview of the unique format of this tournament and a glimpse of what happened during the filming of the preliminary and semi-final rounds. The UBT is the brain child of World Series of Poker Champion Russ Hamilton. The goal of the UBT is to make blackjack tournaments exciting for TV viewers. This isn’t necessarily the case today because many blackjack tournament players bet the minimum for the majority of hands and wait for the final five hands to make their move. Strategically this is a viable strategy but betting the minimum makes for boring TV. To achieve a more exciting tournament for television the UBT has adopted some interesting format changes (more about this in a moment). ...enter your member login information below to read this article/newsletter...
