I mean that my home casino is gone. In fact several of my home casinos are gone. The Copa. The Palace. Treasure Bay. Beau Rivage.

There’s no way that that you are not aware of the destruction caused by The Storm that hit the Gulf Coast area in August. Back in 1992, as a form of compromise, the legislation that enabled casinos to come to Mississippi dictated that they had to be over water, either on the Mississippi River or along the Gulf Coast. Well now the State of Mississippi is missing out on half a million dollars in tax revenue from the casinos alone, not to mention the state income taxes and sales taxes generated by their employees. Just this past month the law was finally changed, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos will be rebuilding on land within 800 feet of the shoreline.

Three of the dozen destroyed casinos are currently advertising that they will open by the end of the year: Imperial Palace, Isle of Capri and the Palace.
