CAN'T GET NO RESPECT! By The Babe The Babe' is a dedicated Blackjack Tournament Competitor. He was attracted to the game at the start of the 80's and has undoubtedly participated in more major blackjack tournaments than anybody and very possibly has won more. He has played his way to the televised tables of The Million Dollar II Tournament, the Ultimate Blackjack Tour on CBS, and the 2007 season of the World Series of Blackjack. He still continues to compete, and has three major titles to his credit over the past two years. Whatever happened to those days of yesteryear when the customer was always right? Today, it seems like we get little or no service wherever we go. We are asked to take a number, to wait in line, and to pay more for less. And if we are foolish enough to complain, we get the run-a-round. In short, we get no respect! Suppose you tire of these annoying little incidents, one following another, day after day, and now you want to treat yourself to a real masochistic thrashing. Then why not go for a fun vacation to a major Casino? Ah yes! Casinos ...... the playgrounds of the world for adults. Maybe you are old enough to remember the days when casinos actually treated you with genuine good will on those rare occasions when you won a few thousand dollars. Many even offered you a free room or a meal to celebrate your luck. No more! Now, you can throw cash at them for days or months, but don’t you dare get lucky and finally win something. That is when they step in and give you the bum’s rush, or cut your comps and leave you feeling like Rodney Dangerfield. You have probably already noticed this trend so you are probably wondering, "What's new now?" Stay tuned and I'll tell you. A major Blackjack Tournament Tour was organized, and it reached fruition thru the efforts of The Ultimate Blackjack Tour (UBT). Well, over a year ago, the start of what was meant to be the second season of the UBT took place in Aruba. A number of other tournament stops followed, and every player was looking forward to the final event of the season, which was supposed to crown a Million Dollar (or more) winner. As I understand it, these tournaments were held and run by the host casinos, with a sanction by the UBT, and an agreement that UBT standardized rules would be used at all the events. Barona Hotel and Casino in San Diego County stepped up and offered to host four circuit events throughout 2007, and also put in their request to hold the BIG MILLION DOLLAR EVENT. Good for them! Many players supported these events, and at least five seats to the big event were awarded at Barona to the lucky winners at their circuit events. Other seats were won at each major UBT stop. These wins were a very big deal, because the entry fee for a seat was $10,000, and that was deducted from each tournament winner’s prize. Less than a month prior to the scheduled BIG EVENT, the UBT offered seats to select players for $9,000, with the stipulation that they pay in advance that week and wear a UBT shirt when they play. After many had paid the $9,000, unofficial word spread that the big tournament had been cancelled. Evidently, Barona seemed to think that the UBT had guaranteed a certain number of entries, and the UBT did not agree with that number. There was probably a lot more to it, but it would seem that Barona did not give much thought to the players. A lot of eager people, who had been planning on this event for a year, were let down by big promises broken. Most players were quick to blame the UBT, and rightfully wanted a refund of their entry, whether paid or won... ...enter your member login information below to read this article/newsletter...
