What a rip... BJI should be completely free! How can you justify charging me?!
Once in a while, we get a free subscriber
who thinks it's unfair that we charge for BJI memberships. They think
they should get every article for free, and are shocked we ask
for payment to read all the articles. Here is a sample e-mail we
received from 'JC':
"Yep, everyone's out to make a buck. Not many "free" articles in the
month's newsletter, except for the "paid" subscribers.
It used to be a great email to get, now it just seems like another
way to get shaken out of twenty bucks. Henry, I love your work though,
and it is a great newsletter, but I'm not shelling out another twenty."
Thankfully, we get many more positive e-mails from subscribers than
the occasional rant, like JC's above. Here's our response, which we can
only hope settles the matter:
"Joe,
I'm sorry you feel that way about the Blackjack Insider Newsletter.
I've added more top notch authors and more content and these guys
want to be paid for their efforts (do you not think this is fair?).
If you think it's easy going to a bunch of casinos, writing down all
the playing conditions and then going home and writing a detailed report,
trust me it's not. Or getting a casino insider (The Suit) to spill his
guts at the risk of getting blackballed all over town (that took me
months to find the right person). I don't think asking our subscribers
to pay $1.66 for each monthly issue is a lot of money considering
that one tip or piece of advice could save or make that subscriber
a lot more money. Plus we've discounted a whole bunch of products
that would more than cover the $1.66 per month cost. I wish I could
give away the Blackjack Insider Newsletter for free but the
economics don't allow me (beside paying my authors I've got to
pay my web master for the production and distribution of the
newsletter and maintain the mailing list).
I do it because I enjoy education folks on blackjack and
I want to use the subscription fees to pay my authors for
their time and effort. I've tried to make that clear when we
went to a partly paid and paid free newsletter. So again
I'm sorry you feel the way you do but I just wanted to be sure
you understand my position."
